MAB documentary inspires Carolina Caycedo
‘In the middle of the Amazon there are people and these people speak. And if the people do not speak, the river will speak.’ One of the inspirations for artist Carolina Caycedo’s participation in the #32bienal was a documentary produced by Movimento de Atingidos por Barragens (MAB) [Movement of the People Affected by Dams], in memory of Souza Magalhães Nilce. Known as Nicinha, the MAB militant was found drowned in the lake of the dam at Jirau Hydroelectric Plant in Porto Velho, in the Brazilian state of Rondônia, after having been missing for six months.
